Applications Engineer

 

The purpose of the role is to help Sales and Marketing secure new design opportunities for the CSR apt-X product line and then provide application support to ensure CSR’s customers reach production as quickly as possible.


The role facilitates the customer development process by ensuring that customers’ technical requirements are met by CSR apt-X software products and supporting HW/SW.  This is achieved through working with customers to identify their technical specifications, advising them on implementation issues, testing scenarios that concern their projects and validating CSR’s software and hardware deliverables within the scope of their project.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides advice and help to CSR’s customers regarding possible changes to CSR reference designs and default software to achieve the required customer specification. Sets and applies the necessary rigour and process to entirely new use cases.
  • Contributes to FAQs, application notes, white papers, reference designs and undertakes design reviews, HW/RF evaluations, SW porting/integration and analysis of problems on customer projects.
  • Drives resolution to technical issues encountered during the customer development process.
  • Works with other CSR teams to ensure that the necessary processes are employed to meet all relevant certification and technical quality standards.
  • Provides application support and training (presentations, workshops and demos) to our customers, distributors, internal staff and regional FAE teams.
  • Travel to key customer sites, regional offices, trade shows and industry events.
  • Assesses and addresses new detail of customer projects.  This includes novel approaches to solving customer requirements in terms of application modification and/or firmware modification.
  • Develops customer relationships and understands customer needs.
  • Keeps abreast of new internal and external specifications and standards.

Required:

  • Degree in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline.
  • Hands on experience with embedded hardware and software debugging using PC software tools, power supplies, oscilloscopes, DMM and logic analysers.
  • Diagnostic and analytical skills
  • Technical ability and some experience in C/C++ programming, embedded software development, comprehension of specifications and software architecture / design.  Source code control and configuration management.
  • Technical ability and some experience in algorithm implementation using digital signal processors.
  • Dynamic and outgoing personality with customer facing and commercial awarenessInterpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Time management skills

Desirable

  • Wider knowledge base than just core competence.
  • Technical ability in audio coding techniques and principles
  • Knowledge of wireless system validation testing and/or certification.
  • Knowledge of wireless technology standards, particularly Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Wireless USB
  • Ability to understand both detailed hardware/software components and top level/system issues
  • Hands on experience of capturing/analysing air traces using wireless sniffers
  • Applications engineering in a software and/or semiconductor environment
